Given our own history in Vietnam, and current unpopularity of the Iraq war, I think America has forfeited any right to bash the French.
We're all surrender monkeys now. We just prefer burgers to cheese.
No, we didn't surrender in Nam, we just picked up and left. I didn't see VC swarming thru our cities, holding victory parades in our streets.
France has a glorious history of surrendering as soon as her borders are crossed, making them the definative cowardly lyon :)
Hello dear anonymous hero,
maybe you should learn history before writing so many bullshits a line (you got the world record, congrats!).
Now let me quote Gary Brecher, a russian analyst, on his webpage :
"The new big thing on the web is all these sites with names like "I Hate France," with supposed datelines of French military history, supposedly proving how the French are total cowards. If you want to see a sample of this dumbass Frog bashing, try this:
www.albinoblacksheep.com/text/france.html
Well, I'm going to tell you guys something you probably don't want to hear: these sites are total bullshit, the notion that the French are cowards is total bullshit, and anybody who knows anything about European military history knows damn well that over the past thousand years, the French have the most glorious military history in Europe, maybe the world.
Before you send me more of those death threats, let me finish. I hate Chirac too, and his disco foreign minister with the blow-dry 'do and the snotty smile. But there are two things I hate more than I hate the French: ignorant fake war buffs, and people who are ungrateful. And when an American mouths off about French military history, he's not just being ignorant, he's being ungrateful. I was raised to think ungrateful people were trash."
This is just the introduction of his paper. You can read it all on his webpage.
And.. Oh.. you can take a look to this website :
It sums up victories anniversaries for each day of the year. Because... yes... France is the only country in the world that can celebrate several military victories for each day of the year.
Now go read some books about history, before posting any new comments : you may seem less stupid, next time... Good luck.
RE: "We're all surrender monkeys now. We just prefer burgers..."
Speak for yourself, Democrat. I'd advise you not to say it too loudly around any Iraq or Afghan vets, tho.
I always wondered what a link from Instapundit would be like.
For the record, I was simply making a lighthearted comment on a humorous news story. I have no doubt that the French poke fun at America and I have no problem with that.
I am fully aware of France's illustrious military history from Charles Martel through Napoleon and World War I. And, while not strictly military, the courage of the resistance in WW II is legendary.
Regarding Vietnam, I served a tour in 1970 and as far as I'm concerned they should been given their independence at the end of WW II. Who's to blame for that? I don't much care anymore.
Anyway, thanks for stopping by and being fairly civil with each other.
But really folks, try to lighten up a bit.
If Liechtenstein had been populated by palestinians, there would have been 10 UN resolutions, a war with missiles, bombs in busses, etc. etc.
Piacere di averti/vi conosciuto :)
